We have prepared for you the necessary conditions and issues you should pay attention to in order for your pet to enter Turkey with you from a different country without any problems at the border gates of Turkey.
Does Turkey Accept Pets from Different Countries?
First of all, it is useful to state the following;
Pets that can enter Turkey; cats, dogs, birds and aquarium fish are limited.
If you have one or more of the animals on this list, i.e. 2 pets and 10 aquarium fish, the specified animals will be allowed to enter the country with you.
Turkey Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Turkey customs directorate, related to pets that will enter the country, requires some documents and reports from animal owners.
Documents required in this context;
- Veterinary health report,
- Certificate of origin and vaccination
- Pet ID
It is stated as follows.
If the documents in question are missing or not valid, it is important that you never wait for the last minute to fulfil the procedures related to your pet.
Completing the necessary documents before the travel date will eliminate the problem of encountering any problems at the border.
If your pet that you will bring with you to Turkey is a cat or a dog;
Your pet is required to have one of the legibly applied tattoo or microchip systems.
Rabies vaccination for cats and dogs is one of the important details.
Rabies vaccination must be done 3 months before coming to Turkey.
At the end of 30 days following the rabies vaccination, an "Antibody Test" must be performed by an authorised veterinarian.
If your pet that you will enter Turkey with is younger than 3 months old and has not yet been vaccinated, an assessment will be made for such cases, taking into account the risk of rabies disease in the country of origin of the animal.
A veterinarian is available at the border gates located on the air, sea and land routes where you will enter Turkey to carry out the necessary checks on your pets.
The veterinarian will give approval for your pet to enter the country after the necessary examinations and controls are completed.
It is important that you do not neglect to go to your veterinarian and have your little friend undergo the necessary health checks before departure abroad so that your dear friend can travel with you.
